I was skeptical when it was announced that there would be a sequel series to Nickelodeon's "Avatar: The Last Airbender". I'm a huge fan of the series, but I wasn't sure if they would be able to capture that same lightning in a bottle again.
As it turns out, I was wrong and the new series is absolutely fantastic. There are some missteps here and there. It doesn't quite hit the same highs that the original series did, but it is still a strong work in its own right. It takes all of the things that made the first series such a gem, but it doesn't rehash anything. In some respects, it goes out of its way to act as a contrast, but it feels natural and it carries the spirit of the first one quite well.
Between this and Cartoon Network's "Green Lantern: The Animated Series", I was convinced for a while that there was still hope for Saturday morning cartoons. Sadly, Green Lantern was cancelled too soon, though Korra had a solid run at four seasons.
I highly recommend checking this show out as it really is quite good. It's got a good story, great characters, and it's just fun, which is something that more shows need.
