*While the DVD's mark these as two separate seasons, that was done for simplicity's sake.  Officially, all of these episodes mark the first season of the show.

Pros

- Great, likable characters
- Solid premise
- The show can be quite emotionally poignant when it wants to be.
- Can balance dark, serious stories with more lighthearted humorous elements fairly successfully

Cons

- Falls into formula rather quickly as it always involves innocence or akuma, leaving little mystery or suspense
- For an action based show, the climaxes are underwhelming as the akuma rarely present a challenge to the heroes
- Komui

Overall

The show has promise and great elements, but it doesn't tap into its assets as well as you'd hope.  It can be uneven, but the legitimately bad episodes are few and far between.  When it hits its highs, it really is quite good, but there is also a lot of average filler.  Again, those episodes aren't bad, just nothing spectacular.

Daily Dose of Awesome: Robosaurus

While I've never been to a monster truck rally, I have seen enough ads to be familiar with the giant robot monsters that crush cars in their hands or mouths.

The most iconic is probably Robosaurus, a robotic dinosaur.  Not only can this "creature" crush cars and small planes, but it "breathes" fire.  As if that weren't enough, the thing houses air cannons that can fire missiles.

Why the military hasn't utilized these is beyond me.  There's this whole debate about whether we should be keeping troops in the middle east, pulling out, or deploying more.  I'd say that you bring the troops home and replace them with a couple of giant, robotic fire breathing dinosaurs.  Problem solved.

From what I can gather, Robosaurus himself has "retired", but there are other constructs around that act in a similar capacity.

You'd think that mechs would be one of those outlandish things that you could only see in movies, comics, or video games.  Luckily for us, they may not be as far outside the realm of possibility as we once thought.

Daily Dose of Awesome: Koizilla's Theme

I already talked about how awesome Avatar: The Last Airbender is.  I wanted to give special credit to the soundtrack as they did a really great job on it.  The one stand out track, for me personally, is the music they played during the climax of the season one finale, when the moon spirit gets killed and Aang and the water spirit join forces to unleash some furious vengeance upon the fire nation.

One of my friends once posited that silence is always scarier.  I think it's a case by case thing.  There are, in fact, instances where the lack of a soundtrack can be very effective, but I think that there are other times where if you get the right score, it can make a scene ten times more horrifying.

This is one of those instances.  When I first saw the scene, my jaw hung open and I got chills up my spine.  Listening to the music on its own has a lesser effect, but it is still very effective in its own right.  Just listening to it, you can imagine people staring up in horror as this gargantuan beast approaches.  The music perfectly captures that "Holy #$@%! What the #%#^ is that thing!?" emotion that I can only imagine was going through every fire nation soldier's head as their fleet was single handedly torn apart.

The only downside to this track is that it's so short, but it is awesome nonetheless.

Stephen King bibliography: Dolores Claiborne

You can read my review of the book here.

Pros

- Dolores makes for a strong narrative voice that gives the prose an added kick

- Strong, sympathetic characters. Except for Joe.  He isn't.

Cons

- No chapters. Readers need that stopping point to both act as an incentive to go a few more pages and to make for a nice starting point on picking up the book.

Overall

This was a decent read.  I wouldn't rank it among my favorite King works, but there's enough here to warrant checking out.  I would actually suggest tracking down an audio version of the book as the story's setup is a perfect fit for that medium.

Daily Dose of Awesome: Ghostbusters...porn

http://splitsider.com/2011/02/the-3d-ghostbusters-porno-really-makes-ghostbusters-3-unnecessary/

It's a more risque topic, I'll admit, but as a lifelong Ghostbusters fan, I felt it warranted comment.  I don't know what to think of it to be honest.  I'm not surprised, porn is basically making "parodies" of everything, but I can't help but be a little perplexed by it.  Is this awesome or facepalm worthy?  I'm actually curious to see what others think about it.

Daily Dose of Awesome: Psychosocial Baby

Someone took Slipknot and Justin Bieber and mashed their songs together.  I'm not a fan of either artist (I'm generally indifferent to both to be honest), but this is hilarious.  Whether it's better than ThunderBusters may vary by opinion.  I do think that this one is funnier, just due to the wide gap between the two artists in tone.  I listened to this thing a dozen times yesterday and I never stopped laughing.

Daily Dose of Awesome: March Madness

OK, I'm going to be honest here, college sports do nothing for me.  I try to care, I really do, but I just don't.  Now, I've attended quite a few games at the Naval Academy, which was quite a bit of fun, and when I do watch college basketball, I tend to root for the Terps (being from Maryland and all) but I don't have the same emotional connection with college sports that I do with professional, though in fairness I should point out that I follow the NBA rather passively.

You may be wondering why I'm putting something regarding college sports on my page if I have no interest in it.  Well, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.  As such, I will admit that I am in the minority in regards to my view on college sports and grant it awesome status despite said view.

March Madness is basically the nickname for the Division 1 tournament.  As there are several games, most of them between fierce rivals, it makes for great viewing.  While no one openly condones gambling, a lot of people do put money on their bracket picks to add some spice to the experience.

While college sports may not hold the same appeal for me as professional, its popularity is proof that they are doing something right.  With hype, rival matches, and more games than you can shake a stick at, college basketball fans get more than their fill come spring when everything comes to a head.  I can't speak for them, but I imagine that they wouldn't have it any other way.
