I'm not well versed in web comics. I was reading Ctrl Alt Del and was digging that for awhile. I read Head Trip, but for a variety of reasons, the author doesn't get to post as much as she would like. One comic I've found that has maintained it's brilliance is Dinosaur Comics by Ryan North.
The brilliant thing about this comic is that the six panels are the same every day, North just needs to write the dialogue without having to worry about any artwork. Every once in a while, other artists will come in and do their own thing, but by and large each comic features the same six panels.
You'd think that the formula would get old. With most people it would, but somehow North makes it work. Even though there are several "issues" ( and I mean several, it took me several days to get caught up when I first discovered the comic) the comic is still as funny now as it was then.
The highlight (and rightfully so given that he's the main character) is T-Rex. The dude just cracks me up. His enthusiasm and energy just make him such a fun character to read about. His interactions with the other characters are always amusing. He's an avid Batman fan which is all kinds of cool. Also, he can talk to God and the Devil. You never see them, just the dialogue. The Devil's is tinted red, and for some reason he's obsessed with video games.
Utahraptor is hit or miss. I know he's supposed to be a foil for T-Rex, but much like Scott Summers' status as Wolverine's foil makes him look bad, Utahraptor usually comes off as condescending or overly accusatory, calling foul on things when T-Rex clearly didn't mean what Utahraptor is implying.
Dromiceiomimus only shows up in one panel each issue, but she's cool too. She's more laid back and accepting of T-Rex's wacky awesomeness.
While you never see them, both Patrick Stewart and William Shakespeare are recurring characters of sorts. T-Rex manages to somehow talk to them too from time to time.
This comic is definitely one worth checking out. It's a rare occurrence where I don't laugh at each issue. It's a brief moment in the day, but it's one I always look forward to.
Whether you're just having a cruddy day at work, or the news is starting to get to you, we could all use a good laugh once in a while. This comic does a great job on delivering said laugh.
