Daily Dose of Awesome: Itsjustsomerandomguy
A lot of people are using Youtube now. It's a great way to let your voice be heard. Some people use it to post funny videos, others use it to rant on various topics, others have used it as a springboard to their own websites. One person who has hit it big is the Youtube personality known as Itsjustsomerandomguy. Real name, Michael Agrusso, itsjustsomerandomguy started off doing short, simple "I'm a Marvel, I'm a DC" videos that parodied the Mac/PC ads that were airing at the time. It featured Spider-Man and Superman (in action figure form) discussing the various movies that had come out based on franchises in their respective universes.
From there he started a new series that featured an ongoing plot line with a wide array of characters. So far, he has done three "seasons" along with several series of "Marvel/DC" ads to fill in the breaks between seasons.
What's so great about itsjustsomerandomguy is his ability to perfectly capture the characters and showing them the proper respect while also poking fun at them at the same time.
While Marvel and DC have crossed over a few times in the past, it seems like that won't be happening again for a while. It's neat to see heroes interacting with heroes who they normally don't come across. As an example, I point you to a video he made where he paired straight laced Green Lantern, Hal Jordan, with the bugnuts insane mercenary, Deadpool.
Yes, Deadpool is really like that. That's what makes Deadpool awesome.
There are a bunch of other videos that he made, some even funnier and better written than even that. I can't speak for non-comic fans, but I think that the humor is such that even you will get a good laugh from it. If nothing else, it will expose you to a bunch of other great characters who you may not know about.
A lot of people say that he should write for either company. I agree, he clearly has a love and respect for these characters and knows how to write them. He has said that while he would love to make money off of this, it would open up a legal can of worms. Given the parodic nature of these videos, I think he might be OK, but I'm no legal expert and the whole "fair use" thing is kinda tricky.
If Marvel and DC ever decide to write a Brave and the Bold style comic where one DC character teams up with a Marvel character, I think he should write it. That would be a cool comic regardless, but he would be a perfect fit.
While he hasn't made any money off of these videos, he has gotten some recognition as he has been invited to speak on panels at various comic conventions, which suggests that they are OK with what he's doing.
If you're a comic fan, you should really check these videos out. If not, well check them out anyway as they are good for a laugh.
