Daily Dose of Awesome: Wipeout

I enjoy this show far more than I should. It's not exactly high brow material.  It's really just an Americanized version of MXC, where you watch a bunch of doofy contestants run through an obstacle course that knocks them around, hits them with stuff, and throws them off high platforms into pools below.

Even though you know you shouldn't, you end up laughing at these people as they try to endure the various trials that the show throws at them.  Still, every once in a while, you get contestants who are up to the challenge and you can't help but be impressed by how well they perform.

The winner does get a cash prize of $50,000, but man, do they make you earn it.  You can see it in the contestants' faces quite often.  As the episode goes on, they just become exhausted and have to dig into every ounce of will power that they have just to move on.  While watching them endure all of this is somehow inherently funny, you do start to feel bad for some of them after a while.

In any event, this show is a guilty pleasure.  It's dumb, but it's fun.  It aims to entertain and it does just that.  While I wouldn't want every show to emulate this style, it works well for an occasional distraction from the stresses of everyday life.
