Pirate Adventures on the Chesapeake

My niece and nephew recently came to visit and, as they are full of energy, it was essential to come up with things for them to do in order to entertain them and to make the trip memorable.

In the search for said entertainment, we came across something called "Pirate Adventures".  It is an attraction of sorts that allows kids to get "tattoos" (ie get their face painted or get a small picture painted on their arm) and dress up as pirates.

That's actually step one as the families are led onto a pirate ship and taken out to sea.  The adults get a nice boat ride and the kids get to go on a bona fide adventure as they search for treasure and fight a rival pirate.

It's a surprisingly elaborate set up as things (such as a bottle with a message or the aforementioned treasure) are left floating out at sea to be picked up on the ship's route.

The ship's veteran (read: adult) crew does a good job of getting the kids involved and excited for what they're doing.  They're a little on the goofy side, but it allows the kids to get more energized and it gives the adults a bit of humor to enjoy as well.

I think the real highlight for the kids is the battle with "Pirate Pete", the bad guy du jour.  The kids get to man cannons that are rigged to shoot water and open fire on said pirate as the boat circles around a couple of times.  A few of the kids were hoping that another battle would occur as they had a blast hitting the villain as he shook his fist at them.

My nephew was a little skeptical of it all at first, but once we got on the boat and set sail, he was as into it as all the other kids.

It really was quite a bit of fun.  If you have small kids in the 3-9 year old range and you're looking for a way to get them out of the house and spend some family time together, this makes for a nice outing.  It entertains everyone and is rather memorable.

They do have a website

http://www.chesapeakepirates.com/

I encourage you to check it out.  It's only $20 a person and it really is worth every penny.
