Daily Dose of Awesome: Animal X

I've been interested in the paranormal for years. I was always interested in horror and science fiction, but I find the real life incidents fascinating. There have been several shows over the years that tried to seek out the supernatural and capture it on film. Some, like Sightings, were quite good. A lot of them end up being cancelled because they rarely, if ever find anything.

In college, my roommate introduced me to, and got me hooked on another paranormal investigation show. It was called Animal X. Much like many of the other shows, the team rarely found anything conclusive. Almost every segment ended with some hint of the creature's existence, but nothing indisputable. This was a show that you didn't watch for the investigation though.

I know, that sounds weird but when you watch this show, you find yourself enjoying the host segments far more than the investigative experiments.

Veteran actor, Bill Kerr is the "mission controller" and he really gets into it. His performance is faux-dramatic, but it's so over the top that it becomes awesome to watch.

The show used to air on the Discovery Channel. Sadly, reruns are hard to come across. The show lasted three seasons.

I didn't think that the show had gotten DVD releases, but after checking the show's main website, as well as Amazon, I discovered that there are have been several DVD's released. Sadly, rather than release them in season box sets, they decided to give each episode it's own disc. This would be fine, except they charge 30 bucks for each DVD. As awesome as the show is, that's not cool. Even worse is the fact that the DVD's aren't available through Netflix.

You can however, find a bunch of clips on youtube. Normally, I would say go to the show's main website to see the videos, but the videos there are the same ones on youtube so it doesn't matter either way.

It's unfortunate that this show isn't on anymore, at the very least it's not on in my area. I do recommend checking your local listings to see if this show does come on as it is definitely entertaining. It's especially entertaining if you interested in supernatural phenomenon and other bizarre activity.
