Black and White vs. Color version

I already reviewed the movie, but I wanted to see if the black and white version really was better. My dvd player didn't read the disc last time so I used my Xbox this time around.
But David, why didn't you do that last time?
Shhh
This was the way that Darabont originally wanted to film it, to give it the feel of a 50's sci-fi movie.
You wouldn't think that it would make that much of a difference, but it does. It almost feels like an extended bigger budget episode of The Twilight Zone.
The monster effects work better in black and white. The film was made on a pretty low budget so the black and white augments that style.
If you have the chance to check out the alternate version, definitely do so. It adds a different element to viewing the film.
