Daily Dose of Awesome: Messin' with Sasquatch

A lot of times, commercials are just time filler that viewers ignore until the show comes on. Sometimes, a product is advertised that catches our eye, other times a commercial is just amusing. Beer commercials are often associated with great advertising due to their use of humor. Sonic, also, has had some success with some rather brilliant commercials depicting people sitting in their cars having inane conversations. Jack Link's Beef Jerky has created a running bit that crosses into the realm of awesome.

Their commercials are mini episodes of a "show" called Messin' with Sasquatch. Essentially, a pair of people come across Bigfoot performing some mundane activity. They'll decide to push his buttons and screw with him a little. One commercial has a biker spray dirt on Bigfoot's newly lit fire, another one has two guys offering the creature a ride and then driving ahead several feet when it grabs the door handle, and another commercial had them putting shaving cream in Sasquatch's hand while he was sleeping and then they ran a feather over his face.

These sorts of pranks are amusing at best when done to people, but do them to an 8 foot tall missing link and all of a sudden, the joke becomes ten times funnier.

The people laugh only to find Bigfoot has caught up with them and wants to dish out some payback, usually resulting in one of the characters getting tossed aside like a rag doll.

It never fails to amuse me. Seeing what juvenile prank the characters decide to perform, their reaction to said prank, as well as bigfoot's roars of fury as he discovers he's been duped. You add it all together and you get something hilarious.

Remember how ABC greenlit a sitcom based on those Geico cavemen? It bombed terribly just due to a poor concept and the fact that the gag had already run its course by the time the show had been approved. Were some network to make a Jackass style show where people come across a sasquatch and play pranks on it though, that's good television.

Along with the Sonic commercials, this is a commercial that would crossover well into full show territory. How these commercials don't get redundant, I don't know, but they don't.

Even if it did get old, all they'd have to do is find a different monster. You could screw with the Yeti, Nessie, Chupacabra, Mothman, the possibilities are endless.

We need not worry about that now though. These commercials remain hilarious and are always good for a laugh. While I may not be an avid fan of jerky, it's this sort of advertising that catches people's eye and makes an impression on viewers' minds.
