Cell to be made into a television miniseries

Huh, so this is interesting.

I just read an article over at Aintitcool.com that reported a miniseries based on King's recent novel Cell is in development .  The article linked to another article from fangoria.com that initially broke the story.

Some of you may remember that Saw director Eli Roth was talking about making the book into a feature film.  With no progress being made on that, John Harrison picked it up and is writing the script.  Harrison has worked on King's material before, with such projects as Creepshow and directing the Tales from the Dark Side movie.  I can't say that I'm displeased.  Roth can keep his torture films.  While King's work does get violent at times, I have a feeling that Roth would lose focus and just make a four hour bloodbath.

There's no word on what channel the series will air on.  It will probably be one of the basic cable channels.  While there is a fair amount of violence, I don't recall there being so much that it would require HBO picking it up in order to do it justice.  They can get away with a sufficient amount with a TV-14 or TV-MA rating and the more graphic stuff would more than likely be heard off-screen.  Gore aficionados may not be pleased, but I find it to be more effective.

Hopefully, something comes of this.  I read some time ago that TNT was planning on adapting The Talisman into a six hour mini-series and nothing has been said of that in months.  Development hell is a frustrating aspect of television and film development.  There's not much info out as it's still in the preliminary stages.  I shall keep an eye on it though and keep you guys posted.
