Ghost Brothers of Darkland County

*Originally published on 12/16/09

Stephen King's website posted an update yesterday informing readers that the recording and editing process of Ghost Brothers of Darkland County is well underway and almost complete.

If you're wondering just what this is and are completely confused as to what I'm talking about, don't worry, I wasn't aware of it either and I'm in the know on this sort of stuff.  I have connections all over the industry..no, I don't.  Still, this is the first I heard of it, so the use of the word "update" was rather jarring to me as it was more of an announcement.

As to what this project is, it appears to be another radio drama, akin to The Mist, but an original work and with musical numbers to boot.  The whole thing will be sold in a novel book package that includes three CD's two of which are the production in its entirety and the third being a soundtrack.

It will also include the full text, I guess that means it's the story on which the whole production is based.

The cast includes Kris Kristofferson, Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow, Joe Frazier and the guy who played Aaron Pierce on 24.  The music is all being done by John Mellencamp.  Mellencamp reinforced the idea that this isn't an audiobook, but more in line with old radio shows.  I'm excited for this, but I do hope the sound quality is better than it was on that release of The Mist.  There isn't any release date, but given how far along they seem to be I would venture to guess it would be sometime early next year.

There will also be a live performance of the work at the Alliance Theater in Georgia.  The play is set to debut in April of 2010.  It was going to be performed last year, but script problems caused it to be pushed back.
