It's Star Wars with zombies! I mean really, how can you go wrong? Any geek worth his or her salt became giddy at the very concept.
Is the book groundbreaking in any way? Well, not really. It's pretty much a standard zombie movie in book form with Star Wars thrown in for good measure. That being said, it's still a blast to read.
If you have a short attention span, you'll like that the chapters are relatively short, making it easy for you to put it down if you need to. That being said, once you put the book down, you'll want to pick it right back up again.
I tore through this bad boy in about three days. It's that gripping.
One major downside is that most of the familiar Star Wars characters aren't in it. Han and Chewie are the only two and even they only have an extended cameo. In the end, it all works out. The original characters work well enough for what we see here, but it would've been nice to see more of the cast that readers and movie-goers know and love.
If you're a zombie fan, this won't show you anything that you haven't seen before. Although, I have to admit, I did like the fact that the virus itself came off as sentient. It's still a fun read and it doesn't really drop the ball in any way.
Star Wars fans will also have a blast as the book keeps you in suspense. As this takes place between the two trilogies, you could argue that the suspense is robbed since you know Han and Chewie will be fine. Maybe that's why we didn't see much of them, but the book still does a good job building up atmosphere and suspense.
As I said first, it's Star Wars with zombies. It has some minor faults, but it's still a great, quick read and it falls well within the realm of awesome.
