The Vampire Hunting Dream Team
I'm a speculative person. If you've read my earlier work, you'll notice I like coming up with random scenarios and imagining how things would unfold. There's been a lot of buzz about the upcoming film adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, as a trailer recently hit the Internet.
This made me envision a crossover featuring various vampire-hunting characters battling an army of their undead nemeses. Over the course of a few minutes, my brain actually did manage to assemble quite the roster, a veritable dream team if you will. I decided to showcase the roster for others to see, and to chime in with their own suggestions if they see fit. With that said, let's begin.
1. Buffy
This one is kind of a given, seeing as she is the "Vampire Slayer". It's pretty much what she was destined to do. Not only is she a strong and capable fighter, but she generally works well with others and has experience leading a group of people, which will come in handy here.
2. Blade
Being a half-vampire himself, Blade possesses all of the strengths of vampires, with none of the weaknesses. Armed with a high-tech arsenal, Blade as made it his life's mission to eradicate the undead from existence.
3. Alucard
An extra-ordinarily powerful vampire in his own right, Alucard serves the Hellsing organization to help fight off the horde of vampires that he sees as inferior. His presence may be problematic as he isn't exactly a team player, but he makes for a potent wild card.
4. Jesus
Yes, Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter is a goofy comedy, but let's be honest here, if vampires existed, Jesus would've hunted them. Being something of a holy man, Jesus would be well equipped to combat vampires, and that's not even taking into account the possibility of other divine powers.
5. Abraham Lincoln
As he was the guy who set this whole thing in motion, I think it's only fair that he be on the team. He may not have the powers that other characters on the list do, but if the movie and novel it's derived from are any indication, he's more than capable of taking out vampires on his own merits.
6. Ben Mears
This writer turned vampire hunter made a name for himself in Salem's Lot, when he faced off against Kurt Barlow, an ancient vampire who manages to overtake the town. Like Lincoln, he doesn't have "powers' per se, but he knows how to handle himself in situations against the more powerful members of the undead.
7. D
Like Blade, D is a dhampir, a half vampire. As such, this grants him many abilities without the weaknesses that vampires suffer from. Whereas Blade has the more traditional vampire skills, such as enhanced strength, speed, and endurance, D seems to be skilled in mystic arts as well, though he prefers his own strength in most situations.
8. Simon Belmont
I've got to be honest, I'm not much of a gamer, so I've never played Castlevania, but he is an iconic monster hunter in his own right and would prove to be a valuable commodity to the assembled roster. He does deal with vampires, as well as a variety of other monsters and supernatural nasties, on a regular basis, and has an array of weapons at his disposal.
So yeah, that's the roster I've assembled so far. If you have any other character suggestions, feel free to chime in. It would be interesting to see how large a team of vampire hunters one can make.
