As I had just recently gotten my sleep schedule to a setup I liked, it stood to reason that my body would reject this notion and keep me up until 3 in the morning for no apparent reason. To pass the time, I decided to listen to a few episodes of "We're Alive". I'm a fan of the series as a whole, I hadn't listened to it yet, and I figured it would make some nice background noise as I did some work.
A few episodes featured an ad for something that caught my ear. As the podcast radio drama centers around a zombie apocalypse, it should come as no surprise that they frequently advertise other zombie media, but the product in question really stood out to me this time.
Said product is a comic series that came out in April of 2012, called Rex, Zombie Killer. It's the zombie apocalypse, as told from the perspective...of pets. The synopsis presented in the ad tells us that the story follows, and I quote, "three dogs, a cat, and a gorilla with a baseball bat" as they begin a cross country journey to find safety...and a home. Yeah, that's right. Also, one of the dogs is a hyper-intelligent Golden Retriever.
There you have it, a premise that could only be pulled off, or even pitched for that matter, in comics. Interestingly enough, despite the crack-tastic premise, the writer does present some serious ideas as he compares it to Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. While I enjoy the crack-tastic, it should be nice to get a little balance between silly and genuinely heartfelt.
You can read more about it here, though really, do you need to read more? If "gorilla with a baseball bat" didn't sell you, I don't think anything will.
