The holiday season is officially upon us. It's that time of year where people try to bring joy to the lives of others by giving gifts to friends and family. Incidentally, I would like to wish my Jewish readers a happy Hannukah. With the shopping mentality on everyone's minds, you may wonder what to get that ardent Stephen King fan in your family. Well fear not true believers, there are plenty of gift options for you out there.
The most obvious one would be King's latest best selling, door stopping novel, Under the Dome. People are always drawn to the bigger gifts and this fits that bill fairly well all things considered. If you're walking around a mall or shopping center, picking this book up will also give your arm a little bit more exercise than other books due to it's weight. If the family member in question is a fan of audiobooks, the novel is available in that format as well. It would be perfect for those long commutes or just lounging around the house with a set of headphones. Rest assured that the audiobook will keep them busy for quite some time.
If the family member is a dollhouse aficionado, consider picking up some Stephen King miniature novels. Your best bet would be to find them on Amazon's page listing all of the books available. Seeing as Amazon is distributing a majority of these through a third party site, you also have the option of buying from said site directly.
If he or she is looking to accessorize, you have the option of buying them jewelry inspired by King's Dark Tower series. There are a wide variety of lapel pins, cuff links, pendant chains, and tie bar clips available for purchase.
For the King fan who wants to enjoy King's work in a new light, there are also comic books available. I've reviewed the individual issues here, but the trade paperbacks are available, bringing all of the story arcs into individual volumes. So far, only the first three stories are available.
The Gunslinger Born
The Long Road Home
Treachery
The first is pretty much a comic adaptation of the fourth book, Wizard and Glass. From there though, it goes on to show us events that were either alluded to or not seen at all. If someone in your family is a Dark Tower junkie, these will be a great gift.
Following on the success of the Dark Tower comics, Marvel decided to release a comic adaptation of King's epic, The Stand. Where as the previous series told stories that we hadn't seen yet, this is essentially the novel turned into a comic book. People are always interested in finding new ways to enjoy their favorite works, and I think that this will do the trick. So far, only the first mini-series is available in trade.
Captain Trips
If they're willing to wait, the second collection, American Nightmares, will be available on January 5.
