A while back, I discovered the gloriousness of the Asylum studio "mockbusters". They aren't parodies, per se, but low budget schlocky movies that try to cash in on current blockbusters. I've only seen a handful, but they are quite enjoyable.
Last night, I discovered that one production, entitled "Megashark vs. Giant Octopus" was available on Netflix's instant streaming program. It's sequel, "Megashark vs. Crocosaurus" was also available.
I made it a double feature and had a blast. Granted, I think the sequel works a little better, but both movies are highly entertaining if you're a fan of wonderfully bad movies.
I will admit that the showdown between the two title characters in the original is a bit short, but on the other hand it did give us this.
Yes, that actually happens and it is one of the most hilariously, stupidly, awesome things I've ever seen in my life. Don't worry, this isn't the only ridiculous thing that happens, so rest assured, the movie is still worth checking out.
As said before, it spawned a sequel, as well as a couple of other "battling giant sea monster" movies. While this sort of thing may not appeal to everyone, I think the title itself does a pretty good job of letting you know what you're in for when you sit down to watch this.
