A few Christmases ago, I got a rather cool gift from my older brother. The gift that I got was a replica Sonic Screwdriver. This had been sitting on my Amazon wish list for some time and it was a pleasant surprise, especially considering that they tend to lean towards gift cards for holiday gifts (not that I'm complaining mind you).
In any case, this toy is a lot of fun. Now, of course, it doesn't do all the stuff you see in the show, but even as an adult, it's fun to pretend that it does. Although the kids will love it too, as evidenced by my 4 year old nephew who kept wanting to play with it despite having no idea what it was and no familiarity with Doctor Who as a franchise. When you walk into a room, you can wave it around and "scan" for things, before opening a door, you can wave it around the door knob to pretend that you're unlocking it. Just hearing the trademark noise, or extending the claw portion is enough to make one geek out. Keep in mind, I'm not even a full fledged Whovian, which should tell you how much fun this toy is.
It's not perfect, I'm not a fan of the fact that it needs button cell batteries as opposed to something more traditional, and the battery compartment is a bit poorly designed, but all in all, this is a great prop and it's a ton of fun to use, even if it really is just for your own amusement.
